Training on the Heimlich Maneuver for Mothers of Children With Disabilities

Foreign body obstruction is one of the most common causes of medical emergencies, particularly in childhood, and can lead to fatal outcomes if not treated promptly and correctly. Therefore, this study aims to examine the effect of hands-on Heimlich maneuver training for mothers of children with disabilities on the mothers' knowledge, skills, self-efficacy, and anxiety levels. Conducted as a randomized controlled trial, the study is planned to include 70 mothers (experimental group: 35, control group: 35) of children aged 1-8 years attending a private rehabilitation center in the Besni district of Adıyaman. Data collection tools will consist of a demographic information form, a Heimlich maneuver knowledge and skill test, and self-efficacy and anxiety scales. A pilot study will be conducted to evaluate the validity and reliability of the data collection tools, test their comprehensibility for the mothers, and identify potential problems that may arise during implementation. Prior to the start of the training, the knowledge levels of all mothers will be assessed via a questionnaire. The Heimlich maneuver training provided to mothers in the experimental group will be delivered hands-on using a pediatric Heimlich mannequin. One month after the training, a post-test will be administered to the mothers. Mothers in the control group will be informed about the study during the initial interview and will take a pre-test. One month after the training, the mothers will take the post-test. Mothers in the control group will be informed about the study during the initial interview and will take the pre-test. The post-test will be administered one month later, after which the mothers in this group will also receive maneuver training. The mothers' pre-test and post-test scores will be compared both within and between groups.

Blended Learning for Psychosocial Nursing Diagnoses

The nursing process is a systematic approach forming the basis of professional nursing care. Literature indicates that nursing students experience the most difficulty in determining nursing diagnoses, often focusing predominantly on physical needs while neglecting psychosocial, social, and spiritual dimensions. This situation limits the effective implementation of holistic care. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of a case-based blended learning approach developed for nursing students on their knowledge levels and skills in differentiating, correlating, and accurately expressing psychosocial nursing diagnoses. It is anticipated that the findings obtained will contribute to enriching the content of nursing curricula and improving instructional methods.

Rehabilitation Interventions After Cardiac Surgery in Older Adults

This randomized controlled trial aims to investigate the effects of foot massage and kinesio taping on functional performance and kinesiophobia in older adults following cardiac surgery. Early mobilization after cardiac surgery is essential for improving recovery outcomes; however, pain, fear of movement (kinesiophobia), and reduced functional capacity may delay rehabilitation in older patients. Participants aged 65 years and older who have undergone cardiac surgery will be randomly assigned to either a foot massage group or a kinesio taping group. The foot massage group will receive daily bilateral foot massage for seven consecutive days, while the kinesio taping group will receive standardized kinesio taping applications to the foot and ankle region during the same period. Functional performance, kinesiophobia, pain intensity, cognitive status, and delirium will be assessed using validated outcome measures, including the Timed Up and Go test, Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia, Visual Analog Scale, Standardized Mini-Mental Test, and Nursing Delirium Screening Scale. Assessments will be conducted preoperatively and on the seventh postoperative day. The study aims to determine whether non-pharmacological, easily applicable interventions such as foot massage and kinesio taping can enhance functional recovery, reduce fear of movement, and support early mobilization in older adults after cardiac surgery.

Individualized Care Perceptions of Patients Receiving Outpatient Chemotherapy: A Qualitative Study

The purpose of this observational study is to learn how people receiving chemotherapy in a clinic without staying overnight (outpatient) feel about the care they receive. The study focuses on individualized care, which means nursing care that is tailored specifically to each person's unique needs, values, and lifestyle. Background: Cancer treatment often involves chemotherapy (medicine used to kill cancer cells). While these treatments help fight the disease, they can also cause side effects like nausea or tiredness, which affect daily life. Nurses play a key role in helping people manage these effects. This research aims to understand how "individualized care" helps participants feel valued and supported during their treatment journey. The study aims to answer these key questions: How do participants describe their experiences with nursing care? What are the specific needs and expectations of these individuals for care that feels personal to them? How does personalized care affect their ability to manage symptoms and follow their treatment plan? Scope and Setting: This study will take place at the Yalova Training and Research Hospital within the Outpatient Chemotherapy Unit. The research will be conducted between May 1, 2026, and April 1, 2027. Method and Participants: The researchers plan to interview 10 to 20 participants who are over 18 years old and receiving treatment at the clinic. The final number of participants will be decided when the researchers find that no new information or themes are being discovered in the interviews (a stage called "data saturation"). Participants will: Take part in a private, one-on-one interview with a researcher. Answer open-ended questions about their thoughts and feelings regarding their nursing care. Allow the interview to be voice-recorded to ensure all information is captured accurately. Spend approximately 30 to 45 minutes sharing their personal experiences. Privacy and Ethics: Participant privacy is a top priority. All personal information and voice recordings will be kept strictly confidential. In the final report, fake names (aliases) will be used so that no one can be identified. Participants can choose to leave the study at any time. The study follows international ethical rules to protect the rights of every participant.

Comparison of the Effects of Different Chest Techniques on University Students With Smoking Addiction

Smoking is a significant risk factor for heart, lung, and respiratory system diseases, and is particularly prevalent among young people and university students. In Turkey, tobacco use is high in the 15-24 age group, and smoking rates among university students are reported to be between 20% and 43%. Besides causing COPD and other respiratory diseases, smoking negatively impacts performance by increasing fatigue, dyspnea, and pain during exercise. It impairs lung function, reducing respiratory volumes such as FVC and FEV1. PNF and chest mobility exercises targeting the chest area can improve respiratory parameters by increasing respiratory muscle function and thoracic mobility. Recent studies show that chest PNF techniques have positive effects on lung function, chest expansion, and some physiological parameters, especially in smokers.

Different Inspiratory Muscle Trainings in Patients With COPD

COPD is one of the most life-threatening pulmonary diseases. According to the World Health Organization, it is expected to rise to the third leading cause of death by 2030. Smoking is the most significant contributing factor. COPD reduces lung volumes and causes dyspnea. Over time, respiratory muscle weakness develops, leading to hypercapnia, dyspnea, nocturnal oxygen desaturation, and decreased exercise performance. Pulmonary rehabilitation is the most important component of COPD treatment. Respiratory muscle training should be a mandatory component of the pulmonary rehabilitation program. Combining inspiratory muscle training with functional exercises allows the focus to be on respiratory muscle functions beyond the task of breathing. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Functional Inspiratory Muscle Training on the course of the disease.
