HBV Reactivation in Immunocompromised Patients (REANT STUDY)

Background/Objective: Comorbidities represent a critical risk factor in the prognosis of patients receiving immunosuppressive therapy. For patients with anti-HBc IgG positivity requiring Hepatitis B virus (HBV) prophylaxis, the long-term physiological impact of oral antivirals remains a concern. This study aims to prospectively monitor bone, renal, and metabolic dysfunctions associated with oral antiviral use and other systemic risk factors over a long-term period. Methods: The REANT Cohort is designed as a 4-year, multicenter prospective study. The cohort will consist of patients initiated on HBV prophylaxis due to immunosuppressive treatment. Participants will undergo regular longitudinal assessments to evaluate bone mineral density, renal filtration and tubular functions, and metabolic profiles. The interplay between antiviral therapy, baseline comorbidities, and long-term organ dysfunction will be analyzed. Conclusion: The findings from the REANT Cohort are expected to provide robust evidence regarding the safety of long-term HBV prophylaxis and assist in the development of monitoring guidelines for immunosuppressed patients with latent HBV infection.

Entecavir Resistance-Associated Mutations in Chronic HBV Patients in Turkey (STREAM Study)

Chronic hepatitis B is a long-term viral infection that affects millions of people worldwide. Patients usually require lifelong antiviral treatment to control the virus and prevent liver damage. Some older antiviral medications, such as lamivudine, can lead to the development of viral resistance. This means the virus changes in a way that makes certain treatments less effective. Even though newer drugs like entecavir are stronger and more resistant to these changes, previous exposure to lamivudine may increase the risk of developing additional resistance mutations. By analyzing viral genetic material from blood samples using advanced sequencing technology, this research will help improve understanding of antiviral resistance patterns in patients with chronic hepatitis B in Turkey and may support better treatment decisions in the future.

Find HDV and Determine Its Status in Turkey

The aim of these study to determine the prevalence of hepatitis Delta virus (HDV) infections and the prognosis of HDV patients in Turkey's southeast. The investigators intend to arrange training sessions for 250 family physicians in Diyarbakir, Batman, Mardin, and Sanliurfa in order to determine those goals. The investigators will talk about diagnosing hepatitis B virus (HBV), HDV, hepatitis C virus (HCV), and Human Immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infections during these events. To ensure that patients with simultaneous HDV infection are evaluated for HIV/HCV and to detect liver fibrosis with a non-invasive method.
