Food as Medicine Study

The Food as Medicine (FAME) intervention aims to improve dietary quality in lower income, primarily ethnic minority youth through food navigation that bridges clinical care and community food resources. This study will evaluate the FAME intervention on dietary quality, food behaviors, health outcomes, and cost-effectiveness, using a pragmatic randomized clinical trial design in 250 at risk youth (8-15 years of age) and their caregiver(s) as compared to Usual Care through the following aims: Aim 1: To evaluate the impact of the FAME intervention on child and caregiver(s) dietary quality at 6 and 12 months as compared to Usual Care. Hypothesis: FAME participants will have increased dietary quality as measured by ASA-24/DQI. Aim 2: To assess the intervention's impact on food behaviors, food insecurity, healthy food sourcing, knowledge, self-efficacy, health outcomes and cost-effectiveness at 6 and 12 months as compared to Usual Care. Aim 3: Evaluate implementation outcomes including dose, satisfaction, and individual interviews and focus groups with youth, parents, physicians, clinic staff, community partners, and CHWs.

Effects of the Mediterranean Diet During Pregnancy on the Onset of Allergies in the Offspring

Allergy prevalence is increasing steadily with some describing as the "epidemic of the twenty-first century". Maternal diet during pregnancy has been linked to offspring allergy risk, so it represents a potential target for allergy prevention. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered one of the healthiest dietary models which exerts regulatory effects on immune system, due to the synergistic and interactive combinations of nutrients. We aim to study the effects of MD in pregnancy on the onset of allergic diseases at 2 years of age in the offspring.

Technology-Enhanced Asthma Care in Children at Clinic and Home Study

A randomized controlled trial with parent-child pairs of children with persistent or uncontrolled asthma. An intervention group (n=40 parent-child pairs) will receive the mobile health (mHealth) app and digital sensors with enhanced support from a population health manager role, hereinafter referred to as an asthma coordinator, to provide remote patient monitoring (RPM). A comparison group (n=40 parent-child pairs) will receive the mHealth app and sensors without RPM support to silently collect inhaler use information without mHealth app features. The focus of this project is to evaluate the feasibility and acceptability of delivering a digital intervention for pediatric asthma with RPM in the outpatient setting.

User Experience of a Gait Training Treadmill for Home Rehabilitation of Children With Chronic Conditions

"In the context of limited accessibility to prolonged and efficient rehabilitation programs based on physical activity, this study aims to develop a home program for children with chronic diseases affecting physical health (including cerebral palsy, obesity, and neuromuscular diseases). The French company EzyGain has designed a compact treadmill equipped with sensors and a safety system, which communicates with a tablet application and a virtual reality headset to support at-home rehabilitation. This study seeks to advance the development of this solution into a prolonged and progressive training program, tailored to positively impact children's health. Future users, including children, their parents, and therapists, will be at the heart of the development process. A qualitative methodology will be employed, incorporating focus groups and a series of user experience (UX) questionnaires. The research hypothesis is that user feedbacks will enable the development of an appropriate solution that meets their specific needs and ensures high adoption rates of the device. This study is the first step before assessing the impact of the solution in these 3 groups of children (with cerebral palsy, obesity and neuromuscular disease)."

An Enhanced Home-Based Telemedicine Program Using Remote Examination Devices for Children With Medical Complexity

The purpose of this study is to assess if the benefits for children with medical complexity (CMC) receiving comprehensive care (CC) in an enhanced medical home can be further improved by enhanced telemedicine program (ETM) provided during clinic hours using mobile devices to measure temperature\& oxygen saturation, auscultate the heart \& lungs, and view the skin, throat, \& tympanic membranes in the home.
