The Effect of Health Literacy of Teachers and Parents on the Quality of Life of Primary School Students

Health literacy (HL) is defined by the World Health Organization as "the achievement of a level of knowledge, personal skills, and confidence to take action to improve individual and community health by changing lifestyle and living conditions". Health literacy encompasses various skills that enhance individuals' quality of life, such as accessing accurate health information, adopting healthy lifestyle behaviours, utilizing healthcare services, and making informed health-related decisions. To raise the health literacy of a society, it is essential first to identify and enhance the health literacy of the family, the smallest unit of society. Moreover, it is well-established that parents serve as role models in fostering positive health behaviours and improving the quality of life of their children. Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the impact of the health literacy of teachers and parents, who are thought to influence school-age children's perceptions of health and life, on the quality of life of primary school students.

Improvement of Depression in Terminal Cancer Patients

This study investigates the potential of the water extract of Gastrodia elata Blume (WGE) to alleviate depressive symptoms in terminal cancer patients. In Taiwan, cancer accounts for 25-30% of annual deaths, with terminal patients often experiencing physical pain and psychological distress, including depression. Addressing both physical and psychological challenges is vital in palliative care. Gastrodia elata Blume is a traditional dietary medicine known for its antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, neurotransmitter-regulating, and neuroprotective properties. This trial will recruit 60 hospice patients, randomly divided into two groups: a control group and a WGE experimental group. Assessments will include: 1. General examinations (e.g., height, weight, blood pressure). 2. Non-invasive autonomic nervous system analyses. 3. Patient-reported measures: Quality of Life Scale (EORTC QLQ-C30), Pain Score, and Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). The study hypothesizes that WGE can: 1. Alleviate depressive symptoms. 2. Enhance autonomic nervous system function. 3. Improve the quality of life for terminal cancer patients. This research aims to demonstrate the therapeutic potential of WGE, improving psychological and physiological outcomes for hospice patients.

The Effects of Laughter Yoga and Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) Practices Applied to Women With Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is defined as the most common type of cancer that causes death among women (Siegel et al. 2019). It constitutes 24% of cancers and 15% of cancer-related deaths in women (T.R. Ministry of Health 2020). According to statistics made towards the end of 2020, there are 7.8 million women in the world who were diagnosed with breast cancer in the last 5 years and are alive. It is estimated that one in every 8 women will develop breast cancer in developed countries (WHO 2021). The Ministry of Health reported the frequency of breast cancer in our country as 45.6/100,000 in women in 2018. The incidence of breast cancer is reported to be higher, especially in the 45-54 age range (TC Ministry of Health 2020). Chemotherapy is one of the most frequently preferred treatment methods in the treatment of breast cancer and can cause serious side effects such as pain, nausea and vomiting, loss of appetite, shortness of breath, mouth sores, fatigue, insomnia, anxiety and depression, and may lead to a deterioration in the quality of life of patients (Waks and Winer 2019, Samami et al. 2021, Sajadian et al. 2017, McFarland et al. 2018, Hamer et al. 2017). In the international and national literature, no study has been found comparing the effects of laughter and mindfulness therapy on the anxiety, depression, quality of life and spiritual well-being experienced by breast cancer patients. In this study, it is planned to investigate the effects of laughter and mindfulness therapy applications on the anxiety, depression, quality of life and spiritual well-being levels of women with breast cancer receiving chemotherapy.

Effect of Nutritional Support and Early Rehabilitation on Sepsis

Sepsis is a syndrome of life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by a dysregulated host response to infection.Acute catabolic response in critically ill patients struck by sepsis, manifested by massive protein breakdown in a short time. This pathology frequently leads to prolonged hospitalization and mechanical ventilation, increased mortality, and reduced quality of survival. It is uncertainty whether sepsis patients in ICU can benefit from high protein intake combined with early exercise. Even though the combination has been shown to be beneficial in other populations. In the present study, the investigator will evaluate the effects of a combination of high protein targets combined with early rehabilitation in sepsis patients in ICU.
