Effect of the Suboccipital Inhibition Technique on Balance Changes

Postural balance is an essential capacity for functional autonomy and the performance of activities of daily living, relying on the continuous integration of visual, vestibular, and somatosensory information. Within this system, the upper cervical region plays a particularly important role, as it contributes to the orientation of the head in space and to the coordination between the head, eyes, and trunk. Due to their deep location between the occiput, atlas, and axis, the suboccipital muscles have a high proprioceptive significance and are frequently associated with cervical position control and sensorimotor regulation. Changes in muscle tension, stiffness, or dysfunction in this region may alter the quality of afferent information transmitted to the central nervous system, potentially interfering with postural stability, head position awareness, body sway, and center of pressure control. In this context, the suboccipital inhibition technique is used in osteopathic practice as a manual intervention aimed at reducing myofascial tension, promoting relaxation of the upper cervical musculature, and potentially normalizing proprioceptive input.

Effect of Osteopathic Technique on Maximum Mouth Opening Width, Masseter Muscle Tone and Stiffness

The purpose of this study is to assess the effect of compression and decompression thecnique on the temporomandibular joint on maximum mouth opening width, masseter muscle tone and stiffness in asymptomatic adults, compared with a control condition consisting of cranial listening touch without therapeutic intent. Evaluations will be conducted immediately after the intervention and one week later.

Effects of an Osteopathic Manual Therapy Protocol on Heart Rate Variability, Stress, and Anxiety in Young Adults

Anxiety is characterized by excessive worry and anticipation of future threats, often accompanied by physiological and behavioral manifestations. Anxiety disorders are among the most prevalent mental health conditions worldwide and represent a significant public health concern, particularly among young adults and university students, who frequently experience academic, social, and financial stressors. The aim of this randomized clinical trial is to evaluate the effect of a protocol, consisting of 4 manual techniques, compared to a placebo group, in heart rate variability immediately after the intervention and in anxiety after one week in young adults. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does the osteopathic intervention protocol influence the parasympathetic nervous system? Does the osteopathic intervention protocol influence anxiety and stress? The researchers will compare the osteopathic protocol to a placebo (simulation technique), in order to see if the protocol influences anxiety and stress. Participants will: Prior to the intervention, complete the EADS questionnaire and undergo measurement of heart rate variability; Undergo the protocol or placebo; Immediately after the intervention, they will undergo the measurement of heart rate variability; After one week in the intervention, complete the questionnaire EADS.

Psoas Major Muscle Intervention on Chronic Lumbar Pain in Cleaning Professionals.

The goal of this randomized controlled trial is to determine the effect of a psoas major muscle intervention on non-specific and chronic lumbar pain in cleaning professionals. It is expected that this intervention will reduce the severity and frequency of symptoms. This study aims to evaluate the effect of psoas major stretching techniques. To collect data, participants will rate their pain intensity on a numeric pain scale at rest and during maximal lumbar flexion. Secondary variables include lumbar flexion range of motion (ROM), assessed by the Schöber test, and hip ROM, which will be measured before and after the intervention using a digital goniometer.

Effect of Osteopathic Intervention on Migraine

Migraine is a common, disabling neurological condition characterized by severe, often unilateral pain accompanied by sensory symptoms like nausea and photophobia. Its pathophysiology involves activation of the trigeminovascular system, neuro-inflammation, and nervous system sensitisation. Due to the convergence of trigeminal and cervical nerves in the upper neck (C2), manual therapy may influence migraine symptoms. Osteopathic techniques, such as suboccipital inhibition and C2 manipulation, aim to reduce pain intensity and frequency by normalising mobility and reducing nociceptive stimulation. While promising, further research is needed to validate these interventions through rigorous clinical trials.

Psoas Muscle Release in Non-specific Mechanical Low Back Pain

Nonspecific low back pain affects approximately 80% of the population at some point in their lives. The psoas muscle-positioned between the lumbar and pelvic regions-together with the paravertebral muscles, constitutes the primary muscular group responsible for dynamic stabilization of the spine. Alterations in this muscle may contribute to the onset of low back pain by modifying spinal biomechanics, particularly through increased lumbar lordosis and greater mechanical overload in the lumbar region. Latent myofascial trigger points are asymptomatic but can lead to muscle shortening and weakness. They are characterized by local tenderness and may provoke a localized muscular response known as a local twitch response. The aim of this randomized experimental study was to evaluate the immediate effect of ischemic compression applied to the trigger point of the psoas muscle on pain perception and lumbar range of motion. Researchers will compare a group with a placebo technique to see if the release of the psoas muscle produces effects in this condition. The variables analyzed in this study included low back pain, assessed using the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS); lateral lumbar flexion (right and left), measured using a tape measure (distance from the third finger to the floor); and lumbar flexion range of motion, assessed using the Schober test.
