Effect of Podcast-Based Education on Preoperative Nursing Competency and Evidence-Based Knowledge in Nursing Students

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of podcast-based education on nursing students' competency in preoperative patient care and their knowledge of evidence-based nursing practices. Preoperative care is a critical component of perioperative nursing and plays a key role in patient safety and surgical outcomes. Improving students' competency in this area is essential for maintaining quality care. In this quasi-experimental controlled study, undergraduate nursing students will be randomly assigned to either a control group receiving standard classroom education or an intervention group receiving standard education supplemented with structured podcast materials focusing on preoperative patient preparation and assessment. Outcomes will be measured using validated competency and knowledge assessment tools administered before and four weeks after the educational intervention. The study is designed as a minimal-risk educational intervention and seeks to determine whether podcast-based learning can enhance competency and evidence-based knowledge in nursing education.

Effects of Vibration and Breathing Exercises on Pain and Anxiety During Chest Tube Removal

Removing a chest tube is a common procedure after chest surgery, but it can cause significant pain and anxiety for patients. Although medications can help reduce these symptoms, they may have side effects and are not always sufficient. Therefore, simple and safe non-drug methods are increasingly used to improve patient comfort. This randomized controlled study aims to examine the effects of vibration and breathing exercises applied before chest tube removal on patients' pain and anxiety levels. Adult patients with a chest tube will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: a vibration group, a breathing exercise group, or a control group receiving standard care. Pain and anxiety levels will be measured before the procedure and after chest tube removal using validated scales. The findings of this study are expected to show whether vibration and breathing exercises are effective in reducing pain and anxiety during chest tube removal. If effective, these methods may offer nurses an easy, low-cost, and safe way to improve patient comfort and support evidence-based nursing care.

Hologram Burn Dressing on Pain, Anxiety, Fear, Patient Satisfaction, and Physiological Parameters

Burn injuries are a significant global health problem, leading to serious physical, psychological, and social challenges for affected individuals. The literature emphasizes that dressing changes are among the most painful and anxiety-provoking procedures, negatively impacting treatment adherence and patient well-being. Although pharmacological methods are used to alleviate pain and anxiety, they are often insufficient due to potential side effects and addiction risks. In recent years, advancements in digital technologies-particularly virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR), and hologram applications-have offered promising distraction-based approaches. Hologram technology, through three-dimensional and interactive visuals, can divert the patient's attention from traumatic stimuli, thereby reducing pain, anxiety, and fear in an innovative way. However, there is limited scientific evidence regarding the use of hologram applications during burn dressing changes. This study aims to examine the effects of hologram applications on pain, anxiety, fear, patient satisfaction, and physiological parameters during burn dressing procedures. The research will be conducted at Erzurum City Hospital Burn Center, with a total of 70 patients assigned to experimental and control groups using simple randomization. Data collection tools will include the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI), the Burn Specific Pain Anxiety Scale, satisfaction and fear VAS assessments, and physiological parameter recording forms. The study will be carried out between November 2025 and May 2026. The results are expected to provide evidence-based insights into the feasibility and effectiveness of hologram technology as a non-pharmacological, innovative intervention in burn care.
