Transcutaneous Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation and Spirometry: Sham-Controlled Randomized Trial

This study will examine the short-term effects of transcutaneous auricular vagus nerve stimulation (a non-invasive electrical stimulation delivered through the outer ear) on lung function measured by spirometry in healthy adults. The vagus nerve is involved in many automatic body functions, and ear-based stimulation has been used in research to explore its possible effects on different physiological systems. However, it is not clear whether a brief stimulation session can acutely influence breathing test results in people without respiratory disease. Healthy volunteers aged 18-40 will take part in one laboratory visit. Participants will be randomly assigned to one of two groups: (1) active bilateral stimulation applied to specific ear regions that are known to be innervated by the vagus nerve, or (2) sham stimulation using the same device setup but designed to minimize vagal activation. The stimulation session will last approximately 10 minutes. Before and after the stimulation, participants will perform standard spirometry (breathing) tests. Primary spirometric outcomes will include common measures of lung function such as forced vital capacity (FVC), forced expiratory volume in one second (FEV1), and peak expiratory flow (PEF). Heart rate, heart rate variability, and blood pressure may also be recorded to monitor physiological responses and safety during the visit. Participation is voluntary and participants may withdraw at any time. The procedure is considered minimal risk. Possible side effects are usually mild and temporary, such as tingling, warmth, or mild discomfort at the ear. Rarely, participants may feel lightheaded; if this occurs, the procedure will be stopped and the participant will be monitored until symptoms resolve. There is no guaranteed direct benefit to participants. The results may help clarify whether short-term ear-based vagus nerve stimulation can influence spirometric parameters and may inform future studies on autonomic and respiratory interactions.

Frequency-Dependent Effects of Auricular Vagus Nerve Stimulation on Autonomic and Cardiovascular Parameters

This randomized, sham-controlled, crossover study investigates the acute autonomic effects of transcutaneous cervical vagus nerve stimulation (tcVNS) applied at five different frequencies (0 Hz/sham, 10 Hz, 25 Hz, 50 Hz, 100 Hz) in healthy adults. The primary objective is to determine how stimulation frequency modulates heart rate variability (HRV), blood pressure, and respiratory rate. The study aims to establish a frequency-specific dose-response model using validated physiological measurements.

Effects of Thumb Manipulation on Hand Grip Strength, Function, and Sensation

This randomized controlled study will aim to investigate the effects of thumb manipulation on hand grip strength, function, and sensation in healthy individuals. A total of 60 volunteers aged between 18 and 50 years will be recruited from Ortadağ Special Education and Rehabilitation Center. Participants will be randomly assigned to either a chiropractic manipulation group (n=30) or a control group (n=30), with an equal distribution of males and females in each group. The intervention group will receive thumb manipulation twice weekly for 4 weeks, while the control group will not receive any intervention. Outcome measures will include two-point discrimination (assessed with a discriminator), hand grip strength (measured using a dynamometer), pinch strength (evaluated with a pinch meter), and hand function (measured by the Duruöz Hand Index). Statistical analyses will be performed with a significance level set at p\<0.05. It is expected that participants in the manipulation group will show greater improvements in all measured parameters compared to the control group, suggesting a positive effect of thumb manipulation on hand-related sensorimotor functions in healthy individuals.

Comparison of the Immediate Effects of Mobilization and Manipulation Versus Sham Manipulation on Plantar Pressure in Patients With Hallux Valgus

The aim of this study is to examine the immediate effects of mobilization and manipulation versus sham manipulation on plantar pressure, quality of life, and pain in patients with hallux valgus. Participants will be assessed using a sociodemographic data form, the Manchester-Oxford Foot Questionnaire (MOXFQ), the Manchester Scale, goniometric measurements, the Multidimensional Nil Hallux Valgus Scale, the SF-36 Health Survey, the Numeric Pain Rating Scale (NPRS), and plantar pressure analysis via a pedobarographic device. The study will be conducted on a total of 60 feet, with 30 feet assigned to the manipulation group and 30 feet to the sham manipulation group.
