A Study of Acupuncture for Treating Asthma

Asthma is a common chronic respiratory disease with a low clinical control rate, highlighting the need for novel therapeutic strategies. Recurrent asthma attacks emotional symptoms, such as anxiety and depression, etc. On the contrary, symptoms such as anxiety and depression worsen asthma control. Acupuncture is commonly applied as an effective traditional Chinese medical therapy for asthma. Acupoints GV14, BL13 and BL12 are adopted for the intervention of asthma. GV20 and GV29 are selected to improve emotional symptoms including depression. Nevertheless, standardized therapeutic regimens of acupuncture for asthma and its concomitant emotional symptoms are still lacking. 180 patients with mild to moderate asthma will be recruited in this multicenter randomized controlled trial, randomly assigned to the true acupuncture group, sham acupuncture group and usual care group. The primary outcome is the score of the Asthma Control Test (ACT). Secondary outcomes include the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS), Asthma Quality of Life Questionnaire (AQLQ), pulmonary function, and fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO). The superiority of combined acupuncture therapy in improving asthma control, relieving negative emotions, and enhancing quality of life is to be verified in this study, with high quality evidence for acupuncture treatment of asthma thereby to be provided.

TCM Daoyin for Anxiety/Depression: Psychological Effects and Biological Mechanisms

This 12-week single-arm clinical trial investigates the effects of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Daoyin exercise on anxiety and depression symptoms in 20 participants, followed by a 12-week observational follow-up period. The primary outcome is the change in Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HAMA-14) and Hamilton Depression Rating Scale (HAMD-17) scores at 12 weeks. A secondary outcome will assess these scores at 24 weeks to evaluate sustained effects. Additional secondary outcomes include the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to further assess changes in mood and sleep quality at the same time points. Exploratory analyses will examine inflammatory markers, immune cell subsets, serum metabolomics, and gut microbiota at baseline, 12 weeks, and 24 weeks to identify potential biological correlates. During the follow-up period, participants will record their actual exercise engagement, allowing investigators to explore long-term associations. Findings may provide insights for future mechanistic studies on TCM's role in mental health.

A Study on the Treatment of Patients With Acute Lung Injury Caused by Sepsis Through Microbiota Transplantation

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome triggered by infection, and it is a common critical illness in clinical practice, often leading to multiple organ dysfunction. Among these, acute lung injury (ALI) and acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) are among the most severe complications. The mortality rate of sepsis-related lung injury is extremely high, reaching 30% - 50%. The existing treatment methods are unable to effectively reduce the high mortality rate of sepsis-related lung injury, and there are no specific treatment measures targeting lung injury itself. Dysbiosis of the intestinal flora plays an important role in the occurrence and development of sepsis-related lung injury. Fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), as an effective means of regulating the intestinal flora, has shown certain therapeutic potential in some clinical studies. However, current research on FMT for treating sepsis-related lung injury is still in its infancy, and its mechanism is not yet fully clear. The clinical efficacy and safety also lack high-quality evidence support. Therefore, conducting this project's research will provide theoretical basis for targeted microecological treatment of sepsis-related lung injury; establishing a new strategy of combined microbiota transplantation technology for treating patients with sepsis ALI, and providing new ideas and methods for clinical treatment.

Electroacupuncture in the Treatment of Patients Undergoing Transperineal Prostate Biopsy Under Local Anesthesia

Prostate biopsy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of prostate cancer, and transperineal puncture is a common approach. It has the advantages of no bowel preparation and relative safety. At present, transperineal puncture is often performed under local anesthesia, but there are still clinical problems such as pain and anxiety for patients. Electroacupuncture is often used as an auxiliary means of local anesthesia in China, which has the advantages of analgesia and anti-anxiety. This study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of electroacupuncture combined with local anesthesia in transperineal needle biopsy.

Electroacupuncture for Improving Urinary Incontinence After Radical Prostatectomy

This clinical trial aims to find out if early electroacupuncture (EA) helps people recover the ability to control urination and is safe after surgery to remove the prostate gland for prostate cancer (radical prostatectomy). Participants are people aged 18 to 80 with localized prostate cancer who have had radical prostatectomy and are in good physical condition (ECOG score 0-1, meaning they can manage daily activities well). It will answer two key questions: Does early EA make more people fully control their urination 3 months after prostate surgery? How does early EA affect urination control and safety at 1, 6, and 12 months after surgery? Researchers will compare two groups: one getting EA and the other getting a fake version (sham EA ) to see if EA works better. Participants will start treatment 1 week after surgery, getting EA or sham EA 3 times a week for 6 weeks, 20 minutes each time. They will also complete tests to check urination control and fill out surveys about their urination, quality of life, and symptoms at different times. Their safety will be watched closely too.

Efficacy of Gemcitabine Submucosal Injection for Preventing Recurrence in Intermediate- and High-Risk Non-Muscle-Invasive Bladder Cancer: A Randomized Trial

Bladder cancer is the most common malignant tumor of the urinary system in China, and its incidence has been increasing year by year. It is classified into non-muscle-invasive bladder cancer (NMIBC) and muscle-invasive bladder cancer (MIBC). NMIBC accounts for 75% of newly diagnosed bladder cancer cases, and transurethral resection of bladder tumor (TURBT) followed by postoperative intravesical therapy is the standard treatment for NMIBC. However, the 5-year recurrence rate of NMIBC remains as high as 50%, with 20-30% of patients progressing to MIBC. MIBC is characterized by rapid progression and a high tendency for metastasis. The 5-year survival rate for patients with metastatic bladder cancer is only 5.4%. This study aims to investigate the efficacy of submucosal injection of the chemotherapeutic agent gemcitabine in preventing recurrence of intermediate- and high-risk NMIBC. Additionally, it seeks to develop software and devices related to submucosal injection to promote the clinical application of this new approach in the chemotherapeutic management of NMIBC. This research is expected to bring a revolutionary breakthrough in the standardisation of whole-process diagnosis and treatment of NMIBC, holding significant scientific value and major clinical translational importance for improving therapeutic outcomes and prognosis of bladder cancer.

EOCRCPred: an AI Model to Predict Survival in EOCRC Patients After Surgery

The goal of this observational study is to develop a predictive model for overall survival in patients under the age of 50 who have undergone surgery for early-onset colorectal cancer (EOCRC). The main question it aims to answer is: Can machine learning models accurately predict the long-term survival of EOCRC patients after surgical treatment? Participants who have already undergone surgery for EOCRC as part of their regular medical care will have their clinical data analyzed, with survival outcomes tracked through follow-up assessments. An online survival calculator will also be developed to aid clinicians and patients in predicting personalized survival outcomes.
