Long-term Follow-up of Depressive Disorders in Psychiatric Care

The project investigates long-term prognosis and predictors of treatment outcomes for difficult-to-treat depression in patients in secondary psychiatric care. The current patient cohort was collected in 2012-2021 in the study "Pharmacogenetics in patients with depression with specific focus on difficult-to-treat depression, suicide attempt and CYP2D6". The cohort consists of 415 patients, examined carefully regarding diagnostic assessment and earlier treatment. All participants were also genotyped for the drug metabolizing enzymes CYP2D6 and CYP2C19. Blood samples were stored in biobank for other analyses linked to prognostic markers. The patient cohort will now be followed up with a review of medical records and extraction of register data for a period of 5 years after their participation in the original study. The purpose of the study is to improve treatment and increase knowledge about long-term prognosis in difficult-to-treat depression. This is done by examining symptom profiles, monitoring clinical course and suicidality, and examining prognostic markers.

The Key to Integrated Trauma Treatment in Psychosis Trial

Schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs) have a significant trauma etiology: trauma has been reported in 65 - 80% in this patient group and have a negative impact on prognosis. Trauma treatment is currently not offered in SSDs due to a lack of evidence. KIT is a pragmatic trial comparing the effectiveness of added trauma focused therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to standard treatment in SSDs. The study will compare EMDR as add on to treatment as usual (TAU) to TAU in patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorders (SSDs). The overall aim is to examine the effectiveness of EMDR on trauma symptoms in SSDs. Participants will receive max. 26 sessions of EMDR, and complete assessments before, during and after the course of therapy, in addition to a period of time (6 months) after therapy to examine long-term effects.

Therapeutic Writing for Adults Suffering From Chronic Pain and Comorbid Mental Health Disorders

The goal of this observational study is to understand the effects and experiences of therapeutic writing interventions in adult women with chronic pain and co-occurring mental health conditions. The main questions it aims to answer are: Can therapeutic writing help relieve chronic pain and emotional distress? How does writing support emotional processing, regulation, and meaning-making during rehabilitation? Participants will take part in a two-part writing intervention involving: Guided writing exercises that focus on emotional processing, emotion regulation, and creating meaning. Individual interviews after the writing sessions to explore their experiences. The study uses qualitative analysis methods-phenomenology and logotherapy-to better understand how these writing interventions may support recovery, improve well-being, and offer non-pharmacological tools for managing chronic pain and mental health challenges.
