The Effect of Virtual Reality-Based Intervention on Anxiety, Stress, and Pain in Women Undergoing Colposcopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Due to its invasive nature, the colposcopy procedure can cause high levels of anxiety, stress, pain, and nausea in women. The uncertainty surrounding the condition to be diagnosed, combined with the discomfort caused by the procedure itself, creates significant psychological stress in women and can negatively impact their compliance with diagnosis and treatment. Therefore, it is believed that applying Virtual Reality (VR) technology-one of the distraction techniques-as a non-pharmacological method for women undergoing colposcopy could be effective in reducing pain and anxiety by diverting their cognitive attention away from the procedure's negative stimuli. Although there are many studies in the literature using VR technology, no study has been found that examines the effect of VR-based interventions on anxiety, stress, and pain levels in women undergoing colposcopy. Therefore, this study will be one of the first randomized controlled trials to examine the multidimensional effects of virtual reality (anxiety, stress, pain) in women undergoing colposcopy. The findings will contribute to the widespread adoption of non-pharmacological nursing interventions in clinical practice. The aim of this study is to comprehensively evaluate the effect of a virtual reality (VR)-based intervention on anxiety, stress, and pain levels in women undergoing colposcopy and to determine its efficacy compared to standard care.

Genital Self İmage and Satisfaction With Genital Appearance

The concept of genital self-image first emerged alongside genital identity. Womens perceptions of their genital self encompass their feelings and subjective thoughts about their sexual organs. One of the most significant problems resulting from a negative genital self-image is sexual health. It has been reported that genital self-perception and self-image are related to sexual health. Another study that examined the effects of viewing various vulvar photographs on womens genital attitudes found that women had relatively positive genital self-images before viewing the photographs, but their perceptions became even more positive after viewing them. This study aims to examine the impact of education on genital appearance satisfaction and sexual quality of life in women with low genital self-image. It is hypothesized that women with low genital self-image who receive education will have more knowledge about genital anatomy, which will positively influence their genital appearance, genital self-image, and consequently improve their sexual quality of life. The study is a randomized controlled experimental research. The research will be conducted women aged 18-49 years with low genital self-image who are registered at a Family Health Center (FHC). Data collection tools in the study will include a socio-demographic data form prepared by the researchers, the Genital Self-Image Scale, the Genital Appearance Satisfaction Scale, and the Sexual Quality of Life Scale. The SPSS 24.0 software package is planned to be used for data analysis. Descriptive statistics such as mean, standard deviation, number, and percentage will be used in the analysis of the quantitative data. The normality of the data distribution will be assessed, and parametric or non-parametric tests will be applied based on the distribution. Additionally, regression analyses will be used to evaluate the effect, and a significance level of 0.05 will be accepted for the entire study.

A Multi-Level Trauma-Informed Approach to Increase HIV Pre-exposure Prophylaxis Initiation Among Black Women

U.S. epidemiological data indicates that Black women are a high-risk HIV disparity group, yet initiation of novel prevention strategies like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) among this group is stagnant. Socio-structural challenges like intimate partner violence and gendered racism can constrain PrEP access among Black women, but few implementation studies have mitigated these challenges to improve PrEP initiation. The proposed research aims to implement and assess the effectiveness, implementation, and sustainability of a multilevel intervention to increase PrEP initiation among Black women with and without intimate partner violence in Baltimore.

Postpartum Education Via Artificial Intelligence for Recovery and Loneliness: A Randomized Controlled Trial

The goal of this clinical trial is to learn whether a postpartum chatbot powered by generative artificial intelligence (genAI) can help new mothers get better pelvic floor health information and feel less lonely after childbirth. The main questions this study aims to answer are: * Does using the chatbot improve postpartum pelvic floor health knowledge? * Does using the chatbot help reduce feelings of loneliness during the postpartum period? * Does using the chatbot impact pelvic floor symptoms? Researchers will compare standard postpartum care to standard care plus the chatbot. Participants will: Be assigned by chance (like flipping a coin) to standard postpartum care with or without access to the chatbot. If in the chatbot group, participants will receive education and support via the chatbot over a 4-week period. Both groups will complete questionnaires to measure their pelvic floor knowledge, pelvic floor symptoms, feelings of loneliness, depression, infant bonding, perceived social support, adverse childhood experiences, and peri-traumatic distress. The chatbot was created by urogynecology experts in collaboration with UC San Diego computer science and biomedical informatics researchers. The chatbot is designed to give new mothers personalized, evidence-based information and support in real time.

Evaluation of Anterior Tibial Knee Translation in Healthy Women With and Without Hormone Therapy

Women are recognized as being at greater risk of ACL injury, with a risk 6 times higher than that of men. Hyperlaxity is a risk factor for ACL injury, but the pathophysiological basis for this is poorly studied. Hormonal impregnation and certain periods of the menstrual cycle (ovulatory phase) are risk factors for ACL injury. It therefore seems interesting to study the influence of hormonal impregnation on ligament laxity. To date, to our knowledge, no study has investigated such a relationship.

Acute Equol Supplementation and Vascular Function in Women With and Without CKD

The risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is significantly elevated in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Notably, women with CKD commonly experience menstrual disturbances induced by CKD, which may contribute to impaired vascular function and elevated CVD risk. However, most of the literature in nephrology focuses on male patients, and studies on women's vascular health are limited. Establishing effective therapies for improving vascular function and reducing CVD risk in women with CKD is a high research priority of the NIH. Equol contributes to improvement in vascular function, mediated in part by its anti-oxidative and anti-inflammatory properties. However, there is no information on the effect of equol on vascular function in women with CKD. The proposed project aims to determine the acute effect (1-hour, 2-hours, and 3-hours post ingestion) of oral equol supplementation on vascular function in postmenopausal women with and without CKD.

Feasibility of Different Types of Exercise Training in Perimenopausal Females

Throughout the menopause transition, women experience many symptoms (i.e., hot flashes, night sweats) that can significantly reduce their quality of life. Moreover, their risk of heart disease increases substantially. The years before menopause called "perimenopause" present a critical window of intervention to alleviate menopause symptoms and improve health outcomes. Our team is therefore interested in comparing the potential benefits of different approaches including following the Health Canada guidelines (i.e., accumulating 150 min of moderate-to-vigorous aerobic physical activity weekly); performing high-intensity interval training (HIIT), which involves alternating periods of intense exercise with periods of rest; or stretching in perimenopause. As a first step towards this goal, this study will assess how easy and enjoyable the interventions are to follow over a 6-week period. The information gained from this study will be used to perform a larger study with enough participants to assess the health and quality of life impacts of adopting these different strategies in perimenopause.

HighCycle Study: Acetazolamide, High Altitude and Plasma Volume

Each year, millions of people living at low altitude (\< 1,000 m) travel to high altitude (≥ 2,500 m) for work, tourism, or sports activities. These individuals are exposed to hypobaric hypoxia, which can trigger acute mountain sickness (AMS)-the most common form of altitude-related illness. Therefore, understanding the physiological responses to hypoxia that allow acclimatization, as well as the pathophysiology of acute mountain sickness, is of primary importance. The hematological response to high-altitude exposure initially includes a reduction in plasma volume (PV), leading to an early increase in hemoglobin concentration within the first 24 hours. In contrast, an increase in hemoglobin mass requires several weeks at high altitude. Recent well-controlled physiological studies conducted in hypobaric chambers have demonstrated that this hypoxia-induced PV contraction results from fluid redistribution from the intravascular to the extravascular compartment, rather than from water loss due to increased diuresis. Prophylaxis of AMS is primarily based on the administration of 250 mg/day of acetazolamide (ACZ), a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor with a mild diuretic effect. Acetazolamide induces metabolic acidosis, which stimulates ventilation and thereby improves oxygenation. The effect of prophylactic ACZ use during high-altitude exposure on PV in lowlanders remains unknown: it is unclear whether ACZ leads to a greater reduction in PV due to its diuretic effect, or to a smaller hypoxia-induced PV contraction as a result of improved oxygenation induced by increased ventilation.

Preoperative Pelvic Floor Muscle Training in Female Urinary Incontinence

Pelvic floor muscles (PFM) play a crucial role in supporting pelvic organs and maintaining continence. Weakness in these muscles can lead to dysfunctions such as pelvic organ prolapse, urinary incontinence (UI), and sexual or anorectal disorders. UI, defined as the involuntary loss of urine, is common globally and classified as stress, urge, or mixed incontinence. Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) - the most prevalent type among women - occurs during activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure. Risk factors include female sex, aging, obesity, smoking, chronic constipation, previous gynecological surgeries, and childbirth. Treatment options for SUI include conservative and surgical methods. Pelvic floor training (PFT), first described by Arnold Kegel in 1948, is a conservative approach that strengthens PFM and alleviates symptoms. Although surgery is often used for SUI, with over 200 procedures described, this study aims to evaluate the preoperative effectiveness of intensive PFT in women with SUI. It will assess changes in muscle function and symptoms before surgery, guiding pelvic rehabilitation strategies to potentially reduce surgical burden and improve outcomes.

Examination of the Effect of Nocturia on Pelvic Floor Symptoms, Sleep Parameters and Quality of Life in Women with Urinary Incontinence

Urinary incontinence (UI), a common issue, is the involuntary leakage of urine that negatively affects individuals socially, physically, and psychologically, leading to a decreased quality of life. Nocturia, which is often seen alongside UI, has similar adverse effects. Nocturia refers to the number of urinations during the main sleep period, and it should be accompanied by the intention to fall back asleep after waking up. Nocturia can arise from factors such as sleep disorders and circadian rhythm disturbances. The circadian rhythm regulates the body's biological functions, and this rhythm varies from person to person, creating chronotypes. There is a strong relationship between sleep and nocturia because nocturia leads to deep sleep loss, an increased risk of metabolic diseases, decreased sleep quality and sleep efficiency, and an increase in the number of awakenings after sleep onset. It is necessary to distinguish whether nocturia, which has a comprehensive impact, affects pelvic floor symptoms, chronotype, sleep quality, fatigue, sleepiness, and quality of life in women with UI. Therefore, the aim of this study is to examine the effect of nocturia on pelvic floor symptoms, chronotype, sleepiness, sleep quality, fatigue, and quality of life in women with UI.
